- Does our camp have to require parents to use CampRx?
No. You can choose to make it optional. Please note, however, that few parents will choose to pay for a service that you’ve been providing at no cost. Our fees are also 25% higher if you don’t require parents to use our service. If you’re uncertain about requiring CampRx at your camp, we suggest a pilot program for one session or for a limited number of campers. Once you and your camp’s families have experienced
CampRx, we’re confident you’ll choose to make it mandatory.
- How do we sign up with CampRx?
You may sign up online or by phone, fax, or mail. Just let us know your preference.
- How do we notify parents that we are using CampRx?
While that is ultimately your decision, we have some strong suggestions based on our years of experience. We have found that how CampRx is presented to parents makes a tremendous difference. We have a full-color brochure that introduces our service to parents (we can supply you with as many copies as you like free of charge) and we have sample letters to parents explaining CampRx. We suggest sending the brochure and your own cover letter to families that have registered campers and placing a link to camprx.com on your web site.
- How do parents order?
Parents can order online or by phone, fax, or mail. If they prefer to order by fax or mail they can copy the Order Page and send it to us once they have completed it. If parents have any questions, they can call us toll free at 1-877-302-3881.
- How much does your service cost?
CampRx is always free to camps. Our service costs parents between $10 and $40, depending on camp and medications. If a camper takes only over-the-counter medications, our fee is always $10 for the summer. If a camper takes any prescription medications our fees are as follows:
$15 for sessions of up to one week at camps that require CampRx
$30 for sessions longer than one week at camps that require
CampRx
$20 for sessions of up to one week at camps that do not require CampRx
$40 for sessions longer than one week at camps that do not require
CampRx
These charges are in addition to any cost for the camper’s medications.
- What about scholarship students who can’t afford CampRx?
We provide our service free to scholarship students if your camp requires our service. We count on you to provide us with a list of such campers as soon as you know their names.
- How are the medications packaged?
Each dose of medication is packaged by date and time of dosing along with any other medications due to be administered at the same time of day. They are sealed in a medication strip package with a detailed label that includes the camper’s name, date of birth, medications enclosed, date and time to be administered and any special instructions. The strip is then rolled and placed in a small box (a few inches on each side) with a slot at the top. Your staff simply pulls out each dose, tears open the perforated packet, and hands the camper his medications.
Inhalers, creams, and liquids are dispensed as usual and sent with the camper’s other medications.
Please note that some pills cannot be packaged with other pills because they will decompose or cause a chemical reaction. Those medications are packaged and sent separately.
- Can you package over the counter (OTC) medications such as vitamins, Benadryl or Claritin?
Yes. When parents register they provide us with detailed information regarding over the counter medications, including dose and time of administration. Our pharmacy will package them with any prescription medications dosed at the same time of day. Our pharmacy obtains outstanding volume discounts on OTC medications, so parents may enjoy significant savings on these items.
- Can you package medications campers use on an “as needed” basis?
Yes. We package “as needed” medications separately and send them labeled with directions for administration. We advise parents that most camps stock a supply of as-needed medications for things such as headaches or stomachache and that they may be able to avoid using our service altogether.
- Can you package inhalers, prescription creams, drops, and liquid medicines?
Yes. They are included in separate, resealable packages marked for special dosing.
- What about injectables?
We handle some injectables, such as growth hormone, on a case-by-case basis. We cannot supply insulin and many other injectable medications.
- Can we order our staff medications through CampRx?
Yes. Just use the Medication Order Form and call us if you have any questions or special situations.
- Can we order our infirmary supplies through CampRx?
Yes. We have partnered with MFasco Health & Safety, the nation’s premier supplier of camp infirmary products, to offer our camps a complete line of infirmary supplies at discounted rates. Most orders ship the same day and expert customer service representatives are available to answer your questions. To find out more, please follow the link from the Camps home page.
- What if parents refuse to use CampRx?
We will work with you to minimize the problem of uncooperative parents. We have found that how
CampRx is presented to parents makes a tremendous difference. We have a full-color brochure that introduces our service to parents (we can supply you with as many copies as you like free of charge) and we have sample letters to parents explaining
CampRx. We can also create a system of reminders (via email, phone, and regular mail) that can actually boost parents’ compliance with your medication rules. Of course, it is up to you to decide how to handle parents who completely refuse to comply.

- What if parents have medication questions or problems?
They call us directly or, if they contact you first, you can refer them to us. With the exception of questions about how your camp’s medication policies and practices, we can handle any inquiries and solve all problems via our 24-hour toll-free hotline at
1-877-302-3881. We also have a Board-certified pediatrician available around the clock to answer medication questions from your health staff and parents.
- When do the medications arrive at camp?
We ship the medications to arrive on the day you specify on your Camp Information Form (you fill this out online or we can send you a hard copy).
- What happens if parents order late?
That depends on many things. If they order late and they still provide us with the necessary prescription and insurance information with enough time to make the scheduled shipment, we will typically waive the late fee. If a camper’s medications must be sent in a later shipment, however, we will charge the parent a $25 late fee and some or all of the late shipping costs.
- How will a camper get his medications if they cannot arrive by the first day of camp?
We will notify the parent as soon as we know the order cannot arrive by the first day of camp. In that case, we will advise them to send their child to camp with enough medication to last until our shipment arrives. We will also notify your camp health staff of the situation.
- What if a camper is going to camp for eight weeks? Do you send all the medications at once?
No, because insurance rules require that we obtain and ship only one month’s supply of medication at a time. If a camper will need more than one month’s supply of medication, the doctor must write the prescription with refills. We will arrange to have the medications refilled and shipped to camp at the appropriate time.
- What if a camper’s refill date is part way through camp. How do you handle that?
If the refill date falls during camp, the medication will arrive before camp begins and the parents’ insurance will not be billed until the refill date. Subsequent refills will be sent as needed and the billing delayed as needed.
- What about as-needed medications for our camp infirmary?
CampRx has a new partnership with MFasco, one of the nation’s largest suppliers of infirmary products and a longtime ACA Business Affiliate. You can follow the link on the Camp HomePage to a complete catalog of more than 2,000 infirmary products, all offered at a special discount to camps that use
CampRx. Knowledgeable customer service representatives are available by phone and email and most orders ship the same day.
- How do we handle trips away from camp?
Our packaging is portable, tearproof, and waterproof, making it ideal for overnights away from camp. Your staff can simply tear off the number of doses needed for each camper and tuck them in a backpack. They can retain the empty dose packets as a record that medications were administered.
- Does our recordkeeping change with CampRx?
CampRx can dramatically simplify your staff’s recordkeeping. Your staff can retain the empty packets as a record that medications were administered, eliminating the need to make entries in a log at the same time campers are receiving their medication. Once the rush is over, your staff can make log entries at their leisure. Alternatively, they can initial the writable surface of the dose packets and do away with the log altogether. What your staff chooses to do will depend on their comfort level and your state regulations.
- Do you offer a medication log for our health staff?
Yes. We have our own logs available free to participating camps. Just call us to request one and we will mail it to you.
- Is your pharmacy reliable?
Completely. Our pharmacy, DirectRx of Troy,Michigan, is one of the largest direct-mail pharmacies in the country. It is a major provider of medications to all types of health care facilities. Our pharmacy is also located only a few miles from our office, facilitating communication and making it easy to address any questions or problems that may arise during the summer.
- Will you notify parents when a camper’s medications are prepared and shipped?
Yes. We understand the importance of keeping parents informed at all stages of the process. In addition to our email acknowledgment of their order, parents receive another email when we ship their child’s medications to camp.
- Will you notify us when a shipment is on its way?
Yes. We will email the contact person you have indicated to let them know a shipment is coming. At that time we will also let you know if there are any problems with medications. For example, if some parents ordered late and when their children’s medications will be shipped.
- Can we speak with directors at other camps that currently use CampRx?
Of course. Just call or email us and we will be happy to provide you with names and contact information.
- How do I contact CampRx if I have further questions?
You can email us at oshea@camprx.com or you can call us toll-free any time at
1-877-302-3881.
